Drooping upper lids or under-eye bags can make you look more tired than you feel, and sometimes affect your vision. Here's what blepharoplasty involves, how it compares with a brow lift, and what to expect from recovery.

As we age, the delicate tissue around the eyes loses elasticity. That can lead to drooping upper eyelids, bags under the eyes and a tired look that doesn't reflect how you feel. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is designed to address this.

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and reduces puffiness around the upper or lower eyelids. The aim at KRevive is never to dramatically change your appearance, but to restore a fresher, more rested look.

For some people, excess upper eyelid skin goes beyond a cosmetic concern and starts to affect peripheral vision, making things like reading or driving harder. If that applies to you, mention it to your GP as well, as they can advise whether you're eligible for assessment on the NHS.

Blepharoplasty or brow lift?

The two are easy to confuse:

  • Blepharoplasty focuses on the eyelids themselves, removing or repositioning excess skin and tissue.
  • A brow lift raises and repositions the brow, which can reduce heaviness across the upper face and open up the eye area.

Sometimes a heavy brow is the real cause of a hooded look. In some cases the procedures are done separately or combined, and your consultation will assess which approach suits your anatomy.

What happens on the day

  • Anaesthetic: eyelid procedures at KRevive are performed under local anaesthetic, avoiding the risks, nausea and longer recovery associated with general anaesthetic.
  • Scars: incisions are placed along the natural crease of the upper lid, or just below the lash line or inside the lower lid, so healed scars are discreet.
  • Going home: it's a day-case procedure, so you'll go home the same day.

Recovery

  • Stitches are usually removed at the clinic 5 to 7 days after your procedure, at your follow-up check.
  • We recommend allowing 7 to 10 days of social downtime for swelling and bruising to settle before returning to work.
  • Avoid strenuous activity for the first 2 weeks.
  • All aftercare and follow-up appointments are included in the total cost.

Who performs the surgery?

Cosmetic surgery at KRevive is led by Mr Vahidi. Every procedure starts with a detailed consultation to assess your anatomy and concerns and to discuss the results you can realistically expect.
